Pool equipment repair, replacement and installation in Fort Lauderdale and Broward County
When a pump will not prime or a heater throws an error code, the expensive mistake is replacing parts until something works. We test the system, find the cause, and tell you what it will take to put it right — in writing, before we start. That might be a repair, or it might be new equipment. We do both, and we install what we supply.
Downtown Pools has repaired pool equipment in Broward County since 1979. We repair, replace and install pool equipment as a licensed pool contractor and an authorized Jandy warranty service center. We test the system before we quote it and put the findings in writing, so the recommendation reflects what the equipment is actually doing.
Pool pump repair and replacement
It will not start, it screams, or it trips the breaker the moment it kicks on. Those are the loud failures — bearings, cavitation, a motor on its way out. The quiet one is a pump that still runs but moves less water every month, from a clogged impeller, a failing seal or air getting in on the suction side. You lose turnover slowly, and the water shows it before the pump does.
What we repair:
- Motors and bearings
- Impellers and diffusers
- Mechanical seals
- Lids, O-rings and suction-side air leaks
- Variable-speed drives and controller faults
- Pumps that trip the breaker
- Pumps that will not prime
Repair or replace? A motor swap on a sound wet end buys you years. On a twelve-year-old single-speed pump with a failed motor, a variable-speed replacement will serve you better and cost less to run. We tell you which of those you are looking at, quote both where both are real options, and install the replacement if that is the way you go.
Pool heater and heat pump repair and replacement
No heat, short cycling, or an error code you cannot clear. Gas heaters and electric heat pumps fail differently, and both get misdiagnosed as the heater being dead when the actual fault is flow, gas pressure, a sensor or a board.
What we repair:
- Ignition and flame-sense faults
- Pressure switches and flow problems
- Thermostats and control boards
- Heat exchangers
- Refrigerant-side faults on heat pumps
- Error codes across major brands
We are an authorized Jandy warranty service center, so if your Jandy heater is in warranty we handle the claim and the paperwork. See warranty details.
Leak detection

If you are topping the pool up more often than the weather explains, you are paying for water, chemicals and heat that go straight into the ground. The leak sits in one of three places — at the equipment, in the plumbing, or in the pool itself — and working out which is most of the job. We locate it before anyone opens concrete.
Filters and salt systems

Green or cloudy water, or a pool taking more chemical than it used to, usually comes back to one of these two.
Filters: low pressure, high pressure, leaks at the manifold or clamp band, cartridge and DE service, and grids or cartridges past saving.
Salt systems: cells that have stopped producing, low-salt and low-flow errors, and honest life expectancy on a cell before you spend on one.
New equipment installation
When equipment reaches the end of its life, the technicians who diagnosed it are the ones who install the replacement. We match it to your pool, get it running to your schedule before we leave, register the manufacturer warranty in your name, and show you how to work it.
What we install:
- Variable-speed and single-speed pumps
- Gas heaters and electric heat pumps
- Cartridge, DE and sand filters
- Salt chlorine generators and replacement cells
- Automation and controls, configured and explained
- LED and nicheless pool lights
- Valves, manifolds and equipment-pad replumbing
