Pool light repair, replacement and installation in Broward County

A dark pool is a pool nobody swims in after six o’clock. It is also the repair people put off longest, usually because they assume it means draining the pool. It almost never does.

We repair and replace pool lights across Fort Lauderdale and Broward — bulbs, fixtures, transformers and the wiring behind them — and we do it as a licensed pool contractor, which matters more here than on any other repair.

Why your pool light stopped working

Four things account for nearly all of it, and they cost very different amounts to fix.

The bulb or LED. The cheapest outcome, and the most common on older lights. Incandescent bulbs simply expire; LEDs usually fade or go partially dead rather than switching off cleanly.

Water in the fixture. A perished lens gasket lets water into the housing. This one gets worse the longer it is left, and it is the failure most likely to take the fixture with it.

The transformer. Most pool lights run on low voltage through a transformer. When several lights fail at once, this is usually why.

The wiring or the conduit run. The least common and the most involved — corroded conductors, a failed splice in the junction box, or water in the conduit.

Diagnosis is the job. These look identical from the deck: the light does not come on. Which one it is decides whether you are spending on a bulb or a fixture, so we test before we quote.

LED replacement

Most of the lights we replace are old incandescent fixtures going to LED, and the reasons are straightforward: LEDs draw a fraction of the power, last for years, and give you colour if you want it.

If your pool still has an incandescent light, going to LED is usually the right move even when the old fixture can technically be repaired. An incandescent bulb will expire again; an LED should outlast your time in the house.

Nicheless lights

Traditional pool lights sit in a niche — a recessed housing built into the wall. Nicheless lights do not. They mount flush, which makes them dramatically simpler to install in pools that never had a light, and simpler to service later.

What it costs

Honest answer: it depends on which of the four failures you have, and anyone quoting you a price over the phone without knowing that is guessing.

What actually drives the number:

• Bulb versus fixture. An order of magnitude apart.
• Whether the existing niche and conduit can be reused. Usually yes. When it cannot, the job changes.
• Incandescent, LED, or colour LED, and whether you are matching an existing set.
• How many lights, and whether they share a transformer.
• Access — some lights can be serviced from the deck, some need someone in the water.

Why this one should not be a DIY job

Pool lights put electricity next to water, and the fixture is only half the job. The bonding that ties the metal around your pool together, the condition of the niche and the conduit, and the GFCI protection on the circuit are what actually keep it safe — and they are what gets skipped when a light is swapped by someone working from a video.

We work on the pool side of the system: the fixture, the niche, the conduit run, the transformer and the bonding. We check all of it before we call a job finished, and we test the GFCI so you know it works. If your fixture is old enough that nobody has looked at the bonding in a decade, that check is worth more than the bulb.

If the problem turns out to be on the house side — the breaker, the panel or the feed to the disconnect — that is an electrician’s work, not a pool contractor’s. We will tell you plainly, show you what we found, and point you to someone we would use ourselves. You will not get a bill for a repair we could not legally make.
